WHAT ARE SOME MYTHS ABOUT JEE ADVANCED WHICH YOU THINK MUST BE HIGHLIGHTED?
JEE Main is near the corner and soon after JEE Main, most of you will start your JEE Advanced preparation to achieve better ranks and land into your DREAM IIT. So here I’m for you with Some Myths About The JEE Advanced Exam.
MYTHS ABOUT THE JEE ADVANCED EXAM
Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced is a National Level Engineering Entrance Exam. JEE Advanced is considered as one of the toughest engineering entrance exams for +2 student. Today, in this post, I am gonna talk about some myths related to the very competitive JEE Advanced exam which is given by around 150k students every year. So here it goes for y’all.
5 MYTHS UNCOVERED ABOUT THE JEE ADVANCED EXAM
1. STUDY HOURS
“If a candidate is not studying more than 12 hours a day apart from regular class hours, then he/she can’t be able to crack the JEE exam, especially the JEE Advanced exam”. These type of statements are very common in the daily life of the students preparing for IIT-JEE but that doesn’t mean that a candidate need not to study at all. A candidate has to study very hard to crack the exam. A routine study of 6-8 hours apart from regular classes (of 4-6 hours) is sufficient enough to crack JEE Advanced. According to most of the students, the study of 4-6 hours is sufficient. The study must be regular, uninterrupted and every topic must be revised (at least once) before the exam.
2. VOLUME OF STUDY MATERIAL
"More you study, more easily you can qualify the exam”, is a theory which is adopted by most of the student during their preparation for IIT-JEE. These types of practices are totally inappropriate for JEE preparation. Candidates need not to study every book available but one or two standard books for Theory Plus Questions and another good book of JEE Advanced level only for question practice is sufficient for the preparation. Don’t follow too many books for theory as it might create confusion and confusion is not good for JEE. Preparation of JEE requires more and more practice and for the practice purpose, coaching study material of a good coaching institute and some standard books are more than enough.
3. OFFLINE AND/OR ONLINE
What I feel is that “Online education can only be a substitution and not the solution”. So if things are favourable, then according to me, you should join a good coaching institute (not necessarily Allen/Resonance/FIITJEE/Vibrant, it can be any other coaching institute but it must be good with experienced faculties). Further, don’t leave solving books because books are the best material to study. As I said earlier, coaching study material and books are more than enough.
Now, to crack JEE Advanced with a good rank, one must not be dependent only on classroom study and books. They are enough only for your understanding and strengthening of the topic but to give you the idea of everything related to IIT-JEE exam, here comes the online part into play. Online test series, topper’s interview, analysis of previous year papers and cutoffs etc-etc plays a vital role in giving a boost to a candidate's preparation. Such stuff available online not only helps a candidate in the preparation but it also motivates a candidate, helps them in preparing their study plan, in testing their preparation level, understanding the paper pattern, environment and in revising all the topics. Many students feel that online study material is very useful from a preparation point of view. Moreover, there is a lot of free online study material available on the internet and so, you have don’t have to necessarily buy something.
But always remember, online education can only be a substitution. Don’t waste too much time on the internet for online stuff. In my recommendation, a good coaching institute (if favourable for you) accompanied by some standard books and then the use of online stuff is the best combination. So overall, a mixed-use of offline and online can give you the best result.
4. Good Scorer In JEE Main Doesn’t Imply Good Scorer In Advanced AND Bad Scorer In JEE Main Doesn’t Imply Bad Scorer In Advanced
Sometimes it is considered that the candidate who scores good in JEE Main will also score good in the JEE Advanced as well and those who fail to score good in JEE Main also fails to score good in JEE Advanced as well but that really is a very silly myth. The paper pattern for both exams is totally different. Moreover in JEE Main, there is only one paper but in JEE Advanced, there are two papers. In JEE Main, the paper pattern and total marks are the same every year while in JEE Advanced, both the things are quite unpredictable. In the nutshell, the two exams are completely different. So it simply means that the good scorer in JEE Main doesn’t imply a good scorer in JEE Advanced and vice-versa.
We all very well know about Kalpit Veerwal who scored 360 out of 360 marks in JEE Main 2017 and became the topper of the examination but he scored 303 marks in JEE Advanced and acheived 109th rank in JEE Advanced. On the other side, Sarvesh Mehtani who secured 59th rank in JEE Main scored 339 marks in JEE Advanced 2017 and topped the exam.
5. MYTHS RELATED TO QUESTIONS OF THE JEE ADVANCED EXAM
Whenever we hear the JEE Advanced exam, we visualize it as a paper with obnoxiously tough questions full of scary diagrams, complex and lengthy solutions, tricks to be used everywhere etc-etc. But these are just rumours which have been spread by the aspirants among each other, especially by the repeater students who didn’t clear the exam in their first attempt. And I was also not untouched by this when I went for JEE preparation in 2014.
See! JEE Advanced is a very competitive examination and so it has to be tough. But if you have done your preparation good and you perform to the fullest of your potential, don’t make silly mistakes and don’t let the pressure of the exam suppress you, then you can easily crack this exam. At least 50-60% of this paper is quite doable for a normal student. All you need is that you know the concept very well and remember the formulas and questions that you have practised. Whenever I have talked to my friends in IITB about this exam, everyone has said this same one thing that I told you.
Just look at this example. Some days back when I was teaching determinants to my students, I gave them this problem (JEE Advanced 2016, ONE OR MORE THAN ONE CORRECT, +4/-2).
Everyone started calculating Delta, Delta_x and Delta_y and then went for making cases as generally taught in CRAMER’S RULE and then started checking for correct option(s). But they forget that it is the case of System of Non-Homogeneous Linear Equations In Two Variables and there is a very simple rule to this which is actually taught in class 10th. So even a 10th standard student can do this problem if he/she remembers this rule. Now, look at the solution. It won’t take more than 1-1.5 minutes for this question if you remember that 10th class rule.
So, while preparing for the exams like IIT-JEE, every candidate should always try to avoid such type of myth mentioned above. These myths distract a candidate from his/her studies. Besides focusing on these myths or rumors, every student must focus on the studies and try to do enough hard work to realize and achieve his/her dream.
