This is a very common question among JEE aspirants that what is the minimum rank required in JEE Main and JEE Advanced to get into an NIT or IIT and many people on different platforms and website just give you a vague and predicted answer to this question. But the best answer to this question is that which is based on previous year OPENING RANK (OR) AND CLOSING RANK (CR). To solve the concern of millions of students, here is IIT Roorkee's initiative which can clear all your answers.
All you have to do is visit this website https://cutoffs.iitr.ac.in/ to know everything about what all you can get on a particular rank in JEE Main or JEE Advanced. This is a great initiative by IIT Roorkee for people who want to get a seat in an IIT or NIT. You just have to select the year whose opening and closing ranks you want to see, then select IIT or NIT, then apply some primary filters (you don't have to necessarily apply all the primary filters, you can check even without applying any primary filter), put your rank and then you will get the list of all the colleges (IITs or NITs only) with branch and OR-CR that people with the same rank and same primary filter(s) have got in that particular year. You can also use this website to know about the details of this year i.e. 2020’s seat allotment after a particular round is over. Just check this website and do some searches. It is literally awesome and is of great help. Do share with your friends too who are also in the same dilemma and searching for answers here and there but still not getting a precise reply.
